My recent work is illustrative, mostly cheerful and bright, often with a "dog lovers", plant or nature theme. The varied range of works displayed are inspired by life around Sydney including nature, botanical, animals and pets. From a sketched idea I'll often go through an intense process of simplification and refinement until the works are finally woven into colourful, contemporary designs with curls and twisting elegant lines. I aim for designs that are a celebration of Australian lifestyle, humour combined with an extra twist of fun. With a background in fine arts and graphic design I decided to delve into a new direction for SC Design Sydney in August 2019 partly as a result of my disappointment surrounding the increasing depressing information across the internet and media at large. I wanted to create something that would counter this, make people smile and remind them of how to see the funnier sides of life, an escape for a bit of a laugh, where kindness, calm and happier thoughts prevail. Through my art I hope to make a difference even if it is just a little smile on an otherwise serious face.
A New DirectionIn 2019, I primed the canvas with an idea, inspired by my dog Walnut, my love of nature, and my obsession to create art and started designing amusing, fun, feel-good cards and merchandise – opening a shop on Zazzle.com.au early 2020. I have been on a challenging path of learning since. My curiosity is broad and I like to experiment with a number of different genre including photography, sewing and more recently animation.
BackgroundWith an Associate Diploma in Graphic Design leading to a design career which has kept me grounded, alive and able to pay most of the bills :-) I have a background education in both fine arts and design and have worked in advertising, designing print magazines and in corporate environments.
